Define the application window
- Document the current tool, cutting data, cycle time, tool life, and failure mode.
- Identify the result that matters most: throughput, life, finish, accuracy, security, or total cost.
- Confirm the machine and holder can support the proposed diameter, overhang, speed, torque, and coolant delivery.
Run a controlled comparison
Change one important variable at a time, use a representative batch, and record both output and wear. A successful trial should produce a documented setup that another operator can repeat.
The best tool is the one that produces a stable process under real production constraints.
